Aphorisms of Chanakya Sutra 165 to 251 (Only English and Hindi Translation)

Aphorism 165 A person should be commited to his credibility and duty to the State at the cost of his life. व्यक्ति को राज्य के प्रति अपनी विश्वसनीयता और कर्त्तव्य बुद्धि को बनाये रखना चाहिए चाहे उसे अपने प्राणों की बाजी क्यों ना लगानी पड़े.

Aphorism 166 Those who cause disputes among people on the basis of secrets known to them are deserted even by their family members. जो लोग गुप्त जानकारी के आधार पर लोगो में झगडे लगाते है अपने ही परिवार के लोगो द्वारा छोड़ दिए जाते है.

Aphorism 167 If people who don’t have any standing tell you something worthwhile you should listen to them. यदि वे लोग जिनकी कोई हैसियत नहीं है आपको कुछ कामकी बात बताते है तो आपको उन्हें सुनना चाहिए.

Aphorism 168 Don’t tell the truth to a person who is not eligible to know the truth, who derails the truth, who doesn’t have any faith and who may find the truth bitter. If you do that you are offending the truth. उसे सत्य न बताये जो सत्य को जानने का अधिकारी नहीं है. जो सत्य को बाधा पहुचाना चाहता है. जिसके ह्रदय में कोई श्रद्धा नहीं है. जिसे सत्य बहुत कड़वा लगेगा.

Aphorism 169 One should not disregard significant qualities of a person on seeing some common vice in him. यदि आप लोगो में कोई सामान्य दुर्गुण देखते है तो भी आपको उनके सद्गुणों को अनदेखा नहीं करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 170 One may identify many defects in something good if one takes a gross view. यदि आप स्थूल रूप से देखे तो किसी अच्छी चीज में भी आप को बहोत खामीया नजर आएगी.

Aphorism 171 One may identify lack of shine, curves, oddness and may other defects in a gem stone. The best gemstone of the best class is not free from all defects. Similarly there could be some bodily and sensual disorders in intelligent people. किसी रत्न को देखकर आप कह सकते है की उसमे चमक नहीं है, वह टेढ़ा है, कुछ बिलग है और ऐसे अनेक दोष आप निकल सकते है. एक सर्वोच्च वर्ग के सर्वोच्च रत्न में भी अनेक खामीया निकाली जा सकती है. इसीप्रकार एक विद्वान में भी शरीर और इन्द्रियों की कुछ खामीया हो सकती है.

Aphorism 172 Those who don’t abide by the social norms, those who don’t listen to their conscience, those who don’t abide by any limit should not be trusted upon. जो किसी समाज के आदर्श को नहीं मानते. जो अपने विवेक की नहीं सुनते. जो अपनी मर्यादा में नहीं रहते. उनके ऊपर विश्वास नहीं करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 173 If an enemy shows sweetness in his bahaviour that should be considered as hatred like a pot of poison having milk at the top. यदि शत्रु मधुरता भी दिखाए तो उसे शत्रुता ही समझना चाहिए. वह मानो एक ऐसा विष का घड़ा है जिसके उपरी सतह पर दूध है.

Aphorism 174 Selfish people show humility if they want to serve their interest. So one should discern true colours of such selfish people. स्वार्थी लोग जब उनका काम होता है तो विनम्र हो जाते है. हमें उनके अंतरंग पहचानते आने चाहिए.

Aphorism 175 One should not behave contradictory to good people having experience. जो सज्जन अनुभवी है हमें उनके प्रतिकूल व्यवहार नहीं करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 176 He who is devoid of any quality becomes an abode of many qualities if he remains in contact with a man of qualities. जिस व्यक्ति के पास कोई गुण नहीं है वह गुण प्राप्त कर सकता है यदि वह गुणवान व्यक्ति के संपर्क में आता है.

Aphorism 177 As water that takes shelter with milk mixes with milk fully, in the same way a person who surrenders to a man of qualities becomes similar to him. वह पानी जो दूध की शरण में आता है पूर्ण रूप से दूध के साथ घुल जाता है. यही प्रभाव गुणवान की शरण से भी होता है.

Aphorism 178 The earth is devoid of fragrance but it gains fragrance when it comes in contact with a flower. Similarly a person who is devoid of qualities but capable of assimilation gains from a man of qualities if develops contact. धरती जो सुगंध से रहित है सुंगंधित हो जाती है यदि वह फूल के संपर्क में आती है. इसी तरह गुणों से रहित व्यक्ति गुणवान के संपर्क से गुणी हो जाते है.

Aphorism 179 It is similar to silver acquiring status of gold when it is mixed therewith. किसी गहने को बनाने के लिए जब सोने में चांदी मिलायी जाती है तो वह सोना बन जाती है.

Aphorism 180 A foolish person due to defect of his intellect causes harm to his benefactor and serves his base interest. एक मुर्ख व्यक्ति अपने बुद्धि के दोष से अपना भला करने वाले को नुकसान पहुचाकर खुदका संकुचित स्वार्थ सिद्ध करता है.

Aphorism 181 A sinner is never afraid of being reviled. एक पापी को उसके अपमानित होने का कोई डर नहीं होता.

Aphorism 182 An insurmountable enemy can be conquered by those who have enthusiasm. यदि उत्साह हो तो एक अजेय शत्रु भी पराजित हो जाता है.

Aphorism 183 The glory of knowledge is the resource of the ruler. बुद्धि का तेज ही शासक की असली संपत्ति है.

Aphorism 184 He who lacks enthusiasm, action and intellect can’t get any success now or in future. जिसके पास उत्साह, कर्म और बुद्धि की कमी है उसे कोई सफलता नहीं मिलेगी अभी या भविष्य में.

Aphorism 185 If there is lack of enthusiasm the success that is almost certain slips away. यदि उत्साह की कमी है तो एक निश्चित सफलता भी हाथो से फिसल जाती है.

Aphorism 186 He who wants fish has to go to dive in water and take the risk. Similarly a man of action should rise, run the risk of disaster, protect success in the form of his fate from all troubles and this is how he should accomplish his work. जिसे मछली पानी है उसे जल में गोता लगाना पड़ेगा और जोखिम उठानी पड़ेगी. व्यक्ति को जागना होगा, जोखिम उठानी होगी, अपने नसीब में जो सफलता है उसे हर प्रकार के खतरों से बचाना होगा. तभी उसे सफलता मिलेगी.

Aphorism 187 One should never trust those who are not tested or who are not eligible for the work. आप उनपर विश्वास ना करे जिनकी आपने परीक्षा ना ली हो या जो काम के लायक ना हो.

Aphorism 188 A poison is forever poison. It will never be nectar. As poison never changes it’s form so does a man who is not trustworthy. जहर हरदम के लिए जहर है. वह कभी भी अमृत नहीं होगा. जिस प्रकार जहर अपना स्वाभाव नहीं छोड़ता है उसी प्रकार विश्वास घातकी भी होता है.

Aphorism 189 One should never take any help from enemies for doing the work. आप कोई भी काम करने के लिए शत्रु से मदद ना ले.

Aphorism 190 One should never rely on the enemy for accomplishing one’s objective. आप कोई भी उद्देश्य की प्राप्ति के लिए शत्रु से मदद न ले.

Aphorism 191 One has relations with people only for attaining his objectives. उद्देश्यों को प्राप्त करने के लिए ही लोग दुसरो से सम्बन्ध रखते है.

Aphorism 192 If an enemy’s son is a friend one should protect him. यदि आपके शत्रु का पुत्र आपका मित्र है तो उसकी रक्षा करे.

Aphorism 193 If you want to hit your enemy on his weak points and destroy him, you should continue to show him artificial honour and friendship until you identify his weak points. आप अपने शत्रु को कृत्रिम आदर और प्रेम दिखाते रहे जबतक की आप उसकी कमजोरी जान नहीं जाते. उसकी कमजोरी जानने के बाद आप जमकर प्रहार कर सकते है.

Aphorism 194 The ruler who wants to emerge victorious should hit very hard the weak areas of his enemy. वह शासक जो जीतना चाहता है, अपने शत्रु की कमजोरियों पर जमकर प्रहार करे.

Aphorism 195 The enemy should not know that the ruler is weak and the ruler should always appear strong to the enemy. शत्रु को पता ना चले की शासक कमजोर है और उसे हरदम शासक ताकतवर प्रतीत हो.

Aphorism 196 The enemy always attacks the areas which are assessed as weak. शत्रु हरदम उसे नजर आने वाली कमजोरी पर हमला करेगा.

Aphorism 197 The ruler should have no faith in the enemy who made friendly gestures but behaved like an enemy after the enemy is conquered. वह शत्रु जो शासक से मैत्रीपूर्ण व्यवहार दिखाता था जब परस्त कर दिया जाए तो उस पर विश्वास न किया जाए.

Aphorism 198 The ruler who aspires to be victorious should use strong means to correct the wrong or ugly conduct of his own people. वह शासक जिसे विजय की कामना है उसे अपने लोगो के गलत और अशोभनीय व्यवहार को सख्ती से निपटना चाहिए.

Aphorism 199 When the ruler doesn’t adhere to the good character and offends his own people intellectuals take his offence by heart. जब शासक अच्छे चरित्र को त्याग देता है और खुद के ही लोगो का अपमान करता है तो बुद्धिजीवी लोग अपमान को ह्रदय से लगा लेते है.

Aphorism 200 A person as a whole becomes sick and incapacitated if any of his organ becomes sick. Similarly when any part of the ruling mechanism malfunctions it deprives the whole mechanism of it’s strengths. जिस प्रकार एक अंग के बीमार होने से आदमी पूरा ही बीमार और सामर्थ्यहीन हो जाता है वैसे ही जब शासन व्यवस्था का कोई भाग ठीक से काम नहीं करता तो सम्पूर्ण शासन व्यवस्था ही चरमरा जाती है.

Aphorism 201 Good conduct is the infallible means of defeating the enemy. सदाचार ही शत्रु को परास्त करने का रामबाण उपाय है.

Aphorism 202 A mean person always demonstrates craftiness against good people. जो नीच होता है वह अच्छे लोगो के विरुद्ध बहोत होशियारी दिखाता है.

Aphorism 203 One should not take any efforts to impart righteousness to a base, meek and foolish person. हमें एक ऐसे व्यक्ति को सदाचरण सिखाने के कोई कष्ट नहीं लेने चाहिए जो नीच, दुर्बल, मुर्ख हो.

Aphorism 204 One should not trust a cruel, foolish and mean person. आप को एक क्रूर, मुर्ख और नीच आदमी पर विश्वास नहीं करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 205 Even if you greet a bad person with magnanimity he will not miss any opportunity to harm you. यदि आप एक बुरे आदमी को उदारता का परिचय देते हो तो भी वह आपको नुकसान पहुचाने का कोई मौका नहीं छोड़ेगा.

Aphorism 206 As a forest fire due to it’s burning hot nature doesn’t take any virtue from the sandalwood and burns it to ashes, a foolish person will always harm you disregarding all good done by you. जिस प्रकार एक दावाग्नि अपने उष्ण स्वभाव के कारण चन्दन से कोई शीतलता ग्रहण नहीं करता और उसे जला देता है उसी प्रकार एक मुर्ख उसके साथ किये हुए कोई परोपकार को नहीं जानता.

Aphorism 207 You should never offend any person. आप कभी किसी का अपमान ना करे.

Aphorism 208 One should always bear in mind that forgiveness is a great human quality. One should never cause any agony to those who deserve forgiveness. क्षमाशीलता एक बहुत बड़ा मानवीय सद्गुण है. आप कभी ऐसे व्यक्ति को कोई कष्ट न पहुचाये जो क्षमा का पात्र हो.

Aphorism 209 Those who are devoid of intellect open the secrets that the ruler tells them in confidence. जो मुर्ख होते है वो राजाने जो गुप्त बाते उनसे कही है उसे खोलते है.

Aphorism 210 Love is never expressed by words it is expressed by doing something in favour. प्रेम शब्द से व्यक्त नहीं होता वह कुछ करने से व्यक्त होता है.

Aphorism 211 Only a resourceful person can issue any command. वही निर्देश दे जिसके पूर्ति के संसाधन आपके पास हो.

Aphorism 212 A foolish person makes an obvious favour under the influence of something strange. एक मुर्ख को एक स्वाभाविक अच्छी बात भी करनी हो तो वह बड़े ही अजब ढंग से करता है.

Aphorism 213 Those who lack discretion perish even when they are bestowed with royal affluence. जिनके पास विवेक नहीं वे उन्हें राजश्री प्रदान करने के बाद भी बर्बाद हो जाते है.

Aphorism 214 Those who lack patience don’t get any happiness now or later. In the absence of patience action becomes fruitless even though there was a certain capacity to get the results. One needs to have patience if one wants to be successful. जिनके पास धैर्य नहीं है उन्हें अभी या बाद में कोई सुख प्राप्त नहीं होता. धैर्य नहीं है तो जहा निश्चित फल आना था वहां भी नहीं आएगा. जिन्हें सफलता चाहिए उन्हें धैर्य रखना होगा.

Aphorism 215 The intelligent people shouldn’t get too close to fools. बुद्धिमान लोगो को मूर्खो के बहोत निकट नहीं जाना चाहिए.

Aphorism 216 One should not have a glass of milk if that is offered by a person who has taken liquor. यदि दारू पिया हुआ आदमी आपको दूध का गिलास भी पिने को दे तो न ले.

Aphorism 217 The intellect should help one find a certain path to success when lot of difficulties arise. बुद्धि ही आदमी को सफलता की राह दिखाती है जब वह कठिनाइयों से घिर जाता है.

Aphorism 218 A meal is conducive to good health if it is taken in limit. भोजन सवास्थ्य के लिए अच्छा है यदि वह अमर्याद मात्र में ना लिया जाए.

Aphorism 219 If one has become sick after taking food that was not permissible, one should not take even the permissible food. यदि आप अपथ्य का सेवन करके बीमार हो गए हो तो पथ्य का सेवन भी ना करे.

Aphorism 220 A person remains free from all diseases if he takes meals only when the earlier meal is digested and he feels hungry. आदमी सभी रोगों से मुक्त रह सकता है जब वह तभी भोजन करता है जब उसका पहले किया हुआ भोजन पच चूका है और जब उसे भूख होती है.

Aphorism 221 A sick person, an old person, a weak person should not ignore the worsening of any disease. एक रुग्ण को, एक बूढ़े आदमी को, एक कमजोर आदमी को किसीभी रोग का बढ़ना दुर्लक्षित नहीं करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 222 If a person is having improper digestion and still he takes meals that makes his stomach more sick and woeful. यदि आदमी का पेट ठीक नहीं चल रहा है और वह और भोजन करता है तो उसका पेट और ख़राब हो जायेगा.

Aphorism 223 A disease is worse than an enemy. रोग शत्रु से भयंकर है.

Aphorism 224 One should give charity on the basis of his capacity. जिसकी जितनी क्षमता हो उसने उतना परोपकार करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 225 A person who is unreasonably cunning and greedy has a tendency to come very close and make relations. जो बहुत धूर्त और लोभी है उसमे बहोत निकट आने की और सबंध बढ़ाने की प्रवृत्ति होती है.

Aphorism 226 Greed envelopes one’s mind. लोभ का आवरण आदमी के मन पर छा जाता है.

Aphorism 227 One should classify work on the basis of priority and do the work that has the highest priority. व्यक्ति को उसके काम को प्रार्थमिकता के आधार पर बाटना चाहिए. और उसे जिस काम की प्रार्थमिकता सबसे अधिक है उसे करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 228 If the work done by us or others derails we should verify where the problem has arisen and rectify the defect. यदि हमारा काम या जो काम कोई दूसरा कर रहा है वह रुक जाता है तो हमें यह देखना चाहिए की अड़चन कहा है और उसे ठीक करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 229 An inhuman attack, a vile behaviour, not applying any intellect or showing unwanted bravery are in the very nature of a foolish person. एक अमानुष प्रहार करना, बदसलूकी करना, अपने दिमाग का इस्तमाल नहीं करना, अनावश्यक साहस दिखाना यह सब एक मुर्ख के लक्षण है.

Aphorism 230 One should not exchange words with a fool. व्यक्ति को एक मुर्ख के साथ मुंह नहीं लगना चाहिए.

Aphorism 231 One should not be good to a fool. एक मुर्ख से बहोत अच्छा व्यवहार नहीं करना चाहिए.

Aphorism 232 ‘Iron cuts iron’ is the right policy that should be used against a fool. लोहा लोहे को काटता है – यह नीति मुर्ख के साथ अपनानी चाहिए.

Aphorism 233 It is very difficult for a fool to maintain relations. यह बहोत मुश्किल है की मुर्ख किसीसे कोई रिश्ता निभा पाए.

Aphorism 234 Only the path of righteousness can protect a person. व्यक्ति का सदाचरण ही उसकी रक्षा करता है.

Aphorism 235 A person can’t get rid of his merits and demerits even when his body falls. व्यक्ति उसके पाप पुण्यो से छुटकारा नहीं पा सकता है जब उसके शरीर त्यागने का वक़्त आता है.

Aphorism 236 A person who shows mercy furthers his righteousness. जिस व्यक्ति में दया भाव है वही अपने धर्मं को निभा सकता है.

Aphorism 237 Righteousness gives rise to truth and charity. धर्म का अनुसरण करने से सत्यता और परोपकार में वृद्धि होती है.

Aphorism 238 A person who abides by righteousness can defeat the whole world. जो व्यक्ति सदाचारी है वह सम्पूर्ण विश्व को परास्त कर सकता है.

Aphorism 239 The death that devours one and all can’t perish the one who abides by righteousness. वह काल जो सभी को खाता है उसे कुछ नहीं कर सकता जो धर्म के मार्ग पर चलता है.

Aphorism 240 Whenever the sin that reviles righteousness gains strength righteousness is done the highest offense. जब सत्य के विरुद्ध रुख रखने वाले पाप में वृद्धि होती है तो धर्म का अपमान होता है.

Aphorism 241 Those devil people who revile the truth signal their destruction by reviling the truth. जो दुष्ट लोग सत्य को नीचा दिखाते है उनका यह व्यवहार ही उनके विनाश का संकेत करता है.

Aphorism 242 The intellect that takes delight in unrighteousness signals doom. वह बुद्धि जो अधर्म में रूचि रखती है अपने बर्बादी की ओर संकेत करती है.

Aphorism 243 A man who reviles others can’t maintain secrecy of any matters. जो व्यक्ति दुसरो का द्वेष करता है वह किसी भी मामले की गुप्तता नहीं बनाये रख सकता.

Aphorism 244 One should not insist in knowing the secrets of others. हमें दुसरो की गुप्त बाते जानने के लिए उनके पीछे नहीं पड़ना चाहिए.

Aphorism 245 It is not in order that a ruler is dominated by unworthy followers. यह कोई उचित बात नहीं है यदि शासक अपात्र अनुयायीओ के प्रभाव में आ जाता है.

Aphorism 246 One should not ignore one’s well-wishers but one should take only that much care which they deserve. हमें अपने हित चिंतको को दुर्लक्षित नहीं करना चाहिए. उन्हें सिर्फ उतना महत्त्व दे जितनी उनकी पात्रता है.

Aphorism 247 One should disregard even one’s mother if she is wicked. यदि किसी की माता दुष्ट हो तो उसे उसकी बातो पर ध्यान नहीं देना चाहिए.

Aphorism 248 As a part that gets infected is amputated, one should part with the kinsman who has turned inimical. जिस प्रकार शरीर के एक विषाणुग्रस्त भाग को काट देते है उसी प्रकार जो स्वजन शत्रु हो गए है उन्हें दूर करो.

Aphorism 249 If a person is our benefactor he should be treated like a relative. यदि कोई व्यक्ति अपना भला चाहता है तो उसे सम्बन्धी माना जाए.

Aphorism 250 A medicine that cures a disease has to be obtained from a remote place like forest, similarly a benefactor should not be disregarded even if people consider him to be inferior. औषधि एक दुर्गम वन से आती है, उसी तरह यदि लोग जिसे घटिया आदमी समझते है वह आपका हितकर्ता है तो उसकी अवहेलना ना करो.

Aphorism 251 One should never rely on what thieves say. हम उसपर कभी विश्वास ना करे जो एक चोर कहता है.
